News: Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill explore the 'The Outer Limits'
Scott Derrickson, the writer and director (Sinister) who just signed on to do the Doctor Strange film, is also writing another genre classic albeit from TV. Derrickson is reuniting with his Sinister co-writer, C. Robert Cargill, to write the film on the cult classic sci-fi TV series The Outer Limits for MGM.
Outer Limits was a famous anthology sci-fi and horror show that ran from 1963 to 1965. Like The Twilight Zone, the show had a very cool opening to the show with a narrator telling viewers, "There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission" - which was has been played often, notably The Simpsons halloween special(s)
A big fan of TOL Derrickson he has said in the past he prefers it over Twilight Zone and Derrickson & Cargill will focus on one episode in particular: "Demon With a Glass Hand," which was written by Harlam Ellison.
The stpry involves time travel and alien invasion plus genetic manipulation all in the one episode, which focused on a man with no memory beyond the last 10 days of his life and a computerized hand who discovers he is from the future, unfortunately for the man he is being hunted by an alien race who see him as key to their survival, but he soon discovers a horrifying truth.
Scott Derrickson has upcoming supernatural thriller Deliver Us From Evil, which opens July 2 in the US and stars Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn. He and Cargill, did Sinister 2 together, the sequel to the hit 2012 horror movie but will not be directing Sinister 2 but will produce with Jason Blum.
